My computer has some years on it's back and over time it has been getting slower and slower making working on it harder and harder. As I can't buy a new computer at the moment (a fiscal matter) I decided to scrap everything on it and install Unix (Ubuntu) time will tell if I made a big mistake, first impression is a big speed improvement.
Well, yes, thank you. It is habit-forming.
ReplyDeleteMy computer runs faster under Ubuntu than under XP as well. I've had the same thoughts as you, but then, I lack the power to run Adobe stuff in a virtual machine, so I'm stuck with Windows. No problem on my laptop though, which has enough memory and runs Ubuntu just fine, if only the screen was bigger (15" WXGA) :P
ReplyDeleteI've a lot about UNix so will be very interested to hear your progressive reports!
ReplyDeleteThe blue to suit - to go with the blue you?
At first I thought it was a shark and we get folk in that predicament out here - crocodiles noted for it too. The teeth act as ultra velcro to hold it all up till they bit you through!
Mac.
ReplyDeleteThat's all I have to say.
don't give up if it gets hard/frustrating! the rewards are great if you can stick it out through the rough spots. with ubuntu, the community (online and otherwise) is the operating system, and vice versa.
ReplyDeleteI would go Linux in a heartbeat if Adobe ported Photoshop, After Effects, etc. to it. Good luck! And congrats on being featured in An Illustrated Life. Looks cool!
ReplyDeleteI use Gimp now but it's not really a professional alternative to Photoshop, but I mostly scan in images so it works for now. I guess that my next computer will be a mac though..
