Mattias Adolfsson (b. 1965) is a Swedish illustrator and artist based in Sigtuna. After more than ten years in the video game industry, he changed direction and began working with analogue illustration. Today, Adolfsson is internationally renowned for his imaginative and highly detailed drawings and sketchbooks. His visual worlds—often populated by strange robots, animals, and architectural dreamscapes—combine humour and absurdity with references to popular culture. Adolfsson’s work has been published in magazines such as Wired and The New York Times, and he has collaborated with major animation studios including Disney and Warner Bros. Over the years, he has received several awards, among them Best Album Cover at the Heavy Music Awards and Best Book Design from Svensk Bokkonst. In spring 2025, Adolfsson undertook an extensive signing tour in Japan, where he is regarded almost as a rock star. The exhibition presents a selection of his renowned sketchbooks alongside many other drawings—both personal works and commissioned pieces. His assignments range from editorial illustrations and puzzles to album covers, with clients including Amnesty, Atelier Choux Paris, and the Norwegian State Railways.
