Excellent hunting grounds for Stephane Kardos

Stephane Kardos blog , (Stef's sketches) was one of the reasons I started blogging, his travel sketches and sketches of people are superb. Sometime I wish I could capture people like he does, especially when I visit a place like Bar Centro in Gothenburg. I have not mustered the derring-do to sketch people from life yet, the people that frequent Bar Centro is people who work in advertising and architecture firms and they all look very trendy. People who work in the game industry is notoriously un-trendy, but the coffee is so superb so we can't stay away. Art directors Mr Mystery Mr Big Hands Advertisement executives Typical Game designer

Advertising people speak a language only understood by their own species (ever tried reading one of their blogs?)! I hope you will get your delusions of grandeur back, (those large drawings look wonderful)just put on your rainpants!

  2. I love parts of the English language the expression "delusions of grandeur" just don't translates unto Swedish, the same goes for "Derring do" (this probably is not used that often these days, think I read it In an old copy of the scarlet pimpernel). Don't think I'll return to the larger size sketchbooks though, they are to bulky, and it takes to long time to draw in them). I have a xxl sketchbook that's not in the photo, but that's so large that I have to have an extra hand to get it down from the attic.

  4. They would have a field day Henrik, but the problem is that they actually produce things.

  5. Nice work, I see you have the same stereotypes that we have out here - a few others are 'magazine folk', or 'music shop owner-guy' and 'newspaper "writer"'. The most reviled, however: 'motoring journalist'. Ugh!

I don't like drawing in bars though. People always come and look, that's something I have yet to deal with...

  6. I think the types are universal, motoring journalist is a new type to me, do we have them in Sweden?

I don't know if this is interesting or not but I thought of your drawing of the captain with the cocktail when I saw this.

It might also explain why delusions of grandeur are so hard to cultivate in Britain!
I think derring do went out fashion after WW1 ;)!

  8. Ha ha, great. I loved to watch the "All Creatures Great & Small" by James Herriot when I was a child always wanted to visit Yorkshire, no I knew how to get there, or no they don't go as far as Sweden, what a catch 22.

  11. well, tack sa myckett Mattias, I return the compliment to you. When I see in your previous post all your sketchbooks and how mind blowing all the drawings in them, that makes me want to draw more and more.
Now, when I'm in Gothenburg, you have to take me to bar centro to have a nice drink and we'll sketch all those trendy people while you'll listen to my bad Swedish.:)
